STAY POSITIVE IN THE NEW MONTH

As we enter a new month, we may face many challenges and uncertainties. We may feel anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed by the situations we encounter. One way is to learn from the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor and philosopher who lived in the second century AD. Marcus Aurelius wrote a book called Meditations, which contains his personal reflections and advice on how to live a good and happy life. He wrote this book for himself, as a way of coping with his own troubles and responsibilities as a ruler and a human being. One of the main themes of his book is the idea of STOICISM , which is a school of philosophy that teaches us to focus on what we can control and accept what we cannot. Stoicism helps us to develop a rational and calm attitude towards life, and to avoid being disturbed by external events or emotions. Here are some of the quotes from Marcus Aurelius that can inspire us to stay positive in the new month: ✓ " You have power over your mind - not ...

BROKEN POT

My grandma used to say "Ikoko akufo o ki shey oun amu tole" (A broken pot cannot do what a whole pot can do). She would tell me to always be careful with my pots, to avoid breaking them and losing their value. She would say that a broken pot can never fit in the kitchen, that it is useless and worthless, that it is something to be thrown away. But, is a broken pot really useless? Can it not become something better than what it was? Can it not become something that has value and beauty that is different from those in the kitchen? There is an art called kintsugi, which means "golden joinery". It is the practice of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with gold, silver, or platinum. Instead of hiding the cracks, kintsugi highlights them and makes them part of the pot's history and beauty. The result is a unique and stunning piece of art that celebrates the pot's imperfections and resilience. Kintsugi teaches us that we can learn from our mist...

WE ARE ALL SELFISH: WHY NOTHING IS TRULY FREE

“Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.” - Oscar Wilde What do you think of this quote? Do you agree or disagree with it? Do you think that selfishness is a good or a bad thing? And do you think that you are selfish or not? Delving into this concept through Social exchange theory, which is a theory that proposes that human interactions are based on the exchange of rewards and punishments. Rewards are anything that we value, such as money, praise, love, or happiness. Punishments are anything that we dislike, such as pain, criticism, rejection, or guilt. According to social exchange theory, we are motivated to maximize our rewards and minimize our punishments in our social relationships. Social exchange theory assumes that we are rational actors who weigh the costs and benefits of our actions. Costs are the negative consequences of our actions, such as time, effort, money, or risk. Benefits are the positive outcome...

But what does it mean, and how can it help you achieve your goals? "No gree for anybody" is a phrase in Pidgin English that means not agreeing or not giving in. NO WONDER IT IS "A TRIBE CALLED JUDAH" (CRITIQUE)

By Promise Odejide A Tribe Called Judah is a 2023 Nollywood movie that surprised me with its quality and originality. It has been a while since I spent my time watching Nollywood movies, due to their lack of creativity and inconsistency. So, when I read a teaser from a particular post about A Tribe Called Judah, I decided to starve myself to see the movie. Lo and behold, it was a masterpiece of drama with comedy, blending elements of suspense, action, and family values. The movie tells the story of a single mother, Jedidah Judah, and her five sons from different fathers, who embark on a daring heist to raise money for her kidney transplant. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Nse Ikpe Etim, Uzor Aruhumour, Timini Egbuson, Jide Kene Achufusi, and Boma Akpore, among others. The movie is produced by Funke Akindele and co-directed by Adeoluwa Owu and Funke Akindele. The movie has several strengths that make it a captivating and enjoyable watch. First, the movie sh...
