Golden Charity Foundation Extends Support to Kwara State Children Reception Center During Ramadan

The Golden Charity Foundation yesterday, 2nd of April, 2024, extended its support to the Kwara State Children's Reception Center in Ilorin, kwara state . The foundation visited the center during Ramadan, which is a house established to cater to the needs of children in need. The center, which was founded in 1992 by the then Governor Alhaji Mohammed Sha'Aba Lafiagi, caters to children in six categories, including those who have faced child abuse, early marriage, or parental maltreatment.

During the visit, a matron of the center delivered a heartwarming welcome address, emphasizing the center's commitment to provide a nurturing environment for vulnerable children. The center also provides a safe haven for displaced children who have been separated from their families in public spaces or have lost their way home.

The center ensures that motherless and fatherless children receive care and support until they can be reunited with their families, typically after two years. In more dire circumstances, abandoned children found in forests or gutters are rescued, and through the intervention of the police, they are given a chance for adoption.

Children born to mentally ill mothers receive special attention as their mothers are cared for and the children are welcomed into the orphanage. The center's staff diligently monitors the mother's condition, ensuring the well-being of both mother and child.

The center also addresses the needs of dispute children, caught in paternity conflicts, by providing care until DNA results can guide them back to their rightful families.

Shukurat Ibrahim, the team leader, emphasized that the foundation is committed to ensuring the well-being and growth of the children, and not just to donating items to them. She also highlighted that many individuals had contributed to the items brought for the children, and they would be happy to know that the children are growing up in a healthy and wealthy environment.

The Ministry of Social Development expressed profound gratitude to the supporters of the Golden Charity Foundation and its members for their tenacious dedication to the children's cause.

The visiting team from the Golden Charity Foundation reciprocated the appreciation, commending the center's staff for the motherly love and nurturing environment provided to the children, a confirmation of the center's enduring legacy of care and compassion.

A bold new project aimed at transforming the lives of 100 young people in Gombe is underway, as Ishaq Abdullahi Shehu, a dedicated National Youth Service Corps member from Kano State, turns his agricultural expertise into a community development program. The initiative focuses on modern fish farming techniques designed to combat youth unemployment and boost local food production. Ishaq, a graduate of agriculture from Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil with specializations in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife, is committed to changing the perception of farming. “Agriculture must be seen as a viable business, not just a way of life,” he explains. His program centers on the innovative Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), a method that recycles water through mechanical and biological filtration to allow for high-density, sustainable fish farming while minimizing the use of land and water. Gombe, like many parts of Nigeria, is grappling with the dual challenges o...
