A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Shukurat Temitope Ibrahim, has taken a bold step to improve education in Gombe State by engaging key stakeholders in a discussion on how to enhance learning conditions for students. The event, held at the Government Vocational Training Center, Bolari East, brought together parents, teachers, and community leaders to discuss the significance of education and their roles in fostering academic development.
The engagement is part of Shukurat’s NYSC Personal Community Development Service (CDS) project, "Building Tomorrow’s Leaders in North-East Nigeria through Education." She emphasized that the initiative is not just an individual effort but a collaborative one. “We are not just doing this for the people; we are doing it with them,” she stated, stressing the importance of community participation.
One of the key components of her project includes the renovation of Kamara Primary School’s toilets, the provision of school sandals for 100 pupils, and the distribution of essential writing materials. Fellow corps member Abdullahi Isaik, who addressed parents in Hausa, explained the urgent need for these interventions, particularly for students whose families struggle to afford basic school necessities.
Parents, represented by Mr. Sunusi Yahaya and Mrs. Monica Odch, applauded the initiative and pledged their full support to ensure its success. Similarly, the Headmaster of Kamara Primary School, Mr. Haminu Ahmed Haruna, and the Principal of the Government Vocational Training Center, Mr. Usman Umar Shettima, commended Shukurat’s dedication, describing her as a role model for youth-driven community development. They assured her of their full cooperation in implementing the project.
In her closing remarks, Shukurat reaffirmed her commitment to advancing education in the state, calling on philanthropists and organizations to support the initiative. She also expressed gratitude to the Director General of Gombe Media Corporation, Mr. Ibrahim, and the entire GMC team for their encouragement and for using their platform to amplify her cause.
The event was attended by fellow corps members, including Abdullahi Isaik, Jonathan Joel, and Haroon Muhammad, who lauded the project’s impact and pledged their support.
