Democracy in my country

Eyes were bathed in salty water

Our hope is buried in weak tower

We hide ourselves in viper's cave

Running away from mamba clothed in worm's garment.

We vociferated for people's government

Where the childden of beggers will dine with purple's children

Where our hands will unite in oneness

Neither our ethnics or religions will draw us backward.

Our petitions is jotted on hard pamphlet

But their actions echoic force on us

Our hands worked from desert to mouth

No savings, no achievements

We can't feel our request.

Is this democratic or demoncratic?

Souls of men are burned like roasted corn

Women are less respected in the society

Children were turn to Christmas chicken

While abduction becomes legal business

And human life has low value compared to herd's life.

Is this my country or hell?

Boom! the sound of bomb

Our heart is terrified, war is coming to our land

Battalion meant to guide us are slaughtering us

Their weapons works perfectly on us more than terrorists

Innocent bloods were split like wine

And our voices is taken away and our right.

When shall we shun their futile promises?

Election is coming; they will lust beggers

they come to us like a matured man,

Ready to penetrate holy virgin

He will promise heaven and earth

And swear by his grandsire’s foreskin

But when her stomach brings enjoyment's result,

They will leave the virgin to carry her burden

And despise her like a filthy rag.

I remember when a politician come to my primary school

He acknowledged us as the future of the country

Where are the future of the country?

some have become victims of terrorism

some are battling to feed their idol

While others' hope have crashed

Is this the promising democracy?

Democracy! Democracy!! where are you in Nigeria?

Can you show yourself to our leaders?

Can you pitch to them the mystery of democracy?

Democracy, don't let our vociferation sounded in vain!

    Happy Democracy Day

As I read about Mosunmola Esther Ajibade’s recent achievement, lines from the Kwara State Polytechnic anthem echoed in my mind. Our Blessed POLYTECHNIC That Nurtures Talents, Fulfills Dreams, Destinies, Hopes And Aspirations. We Love You For You Are The Haven Of Bright Mind With Great Ideas. Your Products Are Found Everywhere, KWARAPOLY, Your Praises We Sing." These lines perfectly tells the story of Mosunmola. A graduate of the Mass Communication Department, she has excelled across various fields as a voiceover artist, OAP, red carpet host, and writer. Her latest feat as the best fellow at the 2024 Young Communication Fellowship, organized by PR Nigeria in partnership with Image Marketer Promotion (IMP), adds another feather to her cap. Mosunmola entered the fellowship as an alternative candidate but emerged as the bes...

Corps Member Tackles Unemployment in Gombe with Fish Farming Training

A bold new project aimed at transforming the lives of 100 young people in Gombe is underway, as Ishaq Abdullahi Shehu, a dedicated National Youth Service Corps member from Kano State, turns his agricultural expertise into a community development program. The initiative focuses on modern fish farming techniques designed to combat youth unemployment and boost local food production. Ishaq, a graduate of agriculture from Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil with specializations in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife, is committed to changing the perception of farming. “Agriculture must be seen as a viable business, not just a way of life,” he explains. His program centers on the innovative Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), a method that recycles water through mechanical and biological filtration to allow for high-density, sustainable fish farming while minimizing the use of land and water. Gombe, like many parts of Nigeria, is grappling with the dual challenges o...
