Kwara State Polytechnic: A True Beacon of Excellence and Innovation

Kwara State Polytechnic, established in 1973 by the then Military Governor of Kwara State Col. David Bamigboye, is one of the leading tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Located in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, the polytechnic offers National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in various courses at undergraduate levels. With a vision to be a world-class institution that produces globally competitive graduates who can advance the frontiers of knowledge and contribute to the development of society, the polytechnic has recorded many achievements and innovations over the years.
One of the notable achievements of the polytechnic is its recent victory in the Pitch-A-Ton annual competition, an initiative aimed at providing a seamless transition for Mass Communication students to understand how the profession is practised in the real world. The competition, practised held at the University of Ilorin in April 2023, witnessed an impressive turnout of young talented minds from various universities and polytechnics across Nigeria. Kwara State Polytechnic emerged as the winner of the competition, beating other institutions with their creative and persuasive ideas and pitches. **This was the first time the polytechnic won the competition, which was an attestation to their hard work and dedication.

Another remarkable achievement of the polytechnic is its triumph in the Gov. AA Cup 2023, an inter-tertiary institution football tournament, sponsored by the Kwara State Government. The polytechnic defeated Adeshina College of Education 2-0 in the final match on Friday, December 22, 2023, and clinched their first-ever Gov. AA Cup trophy. The match, which was held at the Main Bowl of the Stadium Complex in Ilorin, started at 4:00 pm and witnessed a thrilling display of skills and tactics from both teams. The polytechnic scored two goals in the second half, courtesy of Aremu (5) and Ibitoye Hassan (9), and celebrated their victory with their fans and supporters.

The Polytechnic is also known for its online result-checking portal, which allows students to access their academic results with ease and convenience. The portal, which was launched in 2018, is a user-friendly and secure platform that enables students to log in with their matric number and password, select the result-checking option, and view or print their results. The portal also provides students with other information and services, such as admission status, course registration, fee payment, and academic calendar.

The polytechnic is not only focused on academic excellence but also on social and cultural development. The polytechnic has a rich and diverse student population, drawn from different ethnic and religious backgrounds. The polytechnic fosters a culture of tolerance and harmony among its students, staff, and community. The polytechnic also has various clubs and associations, where students can express their talents and interests, and participate in extracurricular activities. Some of the notable clubs and associations include the Student Union Government, the National Association of Nigerian Students, the New African Youth Leadership League, the Drama Club, the Music Club, and the Sports Club.

The polytechnic is managed by a team of dedicated and passionate professionals, who are committed to providing the institution with the best services and facilities. The principal officers of the polytechnic are Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed (Rector), Mr Abdulrahman Isiaka (Deputy Rector, Admin.), Dr (Mrs) Felicia Olabisi Awolola (Deputy Rector, Academic), Mr Sodiq Ismaila (Registrar), Mr Muhammed Baba Ibrahim (Bursar), Dr Olarongbe Shuaib Agboola (PolytechnMrLibrarian), Dr Ruqayyah Ayo (Director of Medical), and Architect Tunde Karatu (Director of Works).

Kwara State Polytechnic is indeed a beacon of excellence and innovation and a pride of Kwara State and Nigeria. The Polytechnic has proven itself to be a worthy institution that produces globally competitive graduates who can advance the frontiers of knowledge and contribute to the development of society. The polytechnic is poised to achieve more feats and milestones in the years to come.

Golden Charity Foundation Spreads Christmas Love at City of Refuge Orphanage
