NYSC Corps Member Sponsors Students’ School Fees Through Debate Competition in Bolari East

In a remarkable effort to support education, NYSC Corps member Shukurat Temitope Ibrahim has sponsored the school fees of outstanding students following a debate competition she organized as part of her Personal Community Development Project in Bolari East.

The debate, held for pupils of Kamara Primary School and Government Vocational Training Center, Bolari East, provided a platform for young minds to engage in intellectual discussions on education’s role in societal transformation.

At the end of the competition, Sulyman Ahmed (JSS 3) emerged as the Best Speaker in the secondary school category, while Isah Nasiru Shuaibu (Primary 6) won in the primary category. Both students, along with other participants, were awarded certificates, and their school fees were fully covered as a reward for their outstanding performances.

The event had in attendance the Principal of Government Vocational Training Center, Mr. Usman Umar Shettima, teachers, and students. In his remarks, Mr. Shettima applauded the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would inspire students to strive for excellence. Similarly, Mr. Haminu Ahmed Haruna, Headmaster of Kamara Primary School, expressed gratitude to the organizers for their contribution to the students' academic success.
Present at the event were NYSC Corps members Haroon Muhammed, Patience Paul, Jonathan Joel, and Chindinma Cleopatra, who actively participated in the project’s execution.

Beyond fostering intellectual growth, the debate served as a life-changing opportunity for students, reinforcing the power of education and community support in shaping a brighter future.

A bold new project aimed at transforming the lives of 100 young people in Gombe is underway, as Ishaq Abdullahi Shehu, a dedicated National Youth Service Corps member from Kano State, turns his agricultural expertise into a community development program. The initiative focuses on modern fish farming techniques designed to combat youth unemployment and boost local food production. Ishaq, a graduate of agriculture from Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil with specializations in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife, is committed to changing the perception of farming. “Agriculture must be seen as a viable business, not just a way of life,” he explains. His program centers on the innovative Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), a method that recycles water through mechanical and biological filtration to allow for high-density, sustainable fish farming while minimizing the use of land and water. Gombe, like many parts of Nigeria, is grappling with the dual challenges o...
