STORY TIME: THE LION’S RETURN: A TALE OF FRIENDSHIP AND FREEDOM

an extract from a story....

While anticipating for LOVE IN THE TIME OF WAR EP 4, TAKE YOUR TIME TO UNDERSTAND THIS FOLKTALE.

Once upon a time, in the land of Alkebulan, there lived many different animals who had their own kingdoms and cultures. Among them, the most powerful and respected was the lion, who ruled over the savanna with wisdom and justice. The lion had many allies, such as the elephant, the giraffe, and the zebra, who helped him maintain peace and order in his domain. The lion also had many enemies, such as the hyena, the jackal, and the vulture, who envied his power and wealth and plotted to overthrow him.

One of the lion's closest friends was the tortoise, who was a clever and cunning trickster. The tortoise often visited the lion's palace and entertained him with his stories and jokes. The lion enjoyed the tortoise's company and trusted him as his advisor. The tortoise, however, had a secret agenda. He wanted to become the king of the savanna and take over the lion's throne. He had been secretly working with the snake, who was a ruthless and cunning invader from the forest. The snake had promised to help the tortoise achieve his ambition if he helped him conquer the savanna.

The tortoise agreed to betray the lion and devised a plan to weaken his kingdom. He spread false rumors and lies among the animals, causing distrust and division among them. He also corrupted some of the lion's officials and generals, bribing them with money and promises. He also sabotaged some of the lion's projects and policies, such as building dams, digging wells, and planting crops, causing drought, famine, and poverty in the savanna.

The lion was unaware of the tortoise's treachery and continued to rule with confidence and pride. He did not notice that his kingdom was slowly falling apart and that his people were suffering and unhappy. He also did not notice that the snake was secretly infiltrating his territory with his army of venomous snakes, crocodiles, scorpions, and spiders. The snake was waiting for the right moment to launch a surprise attack on the lion's palace and capture him.

The tortoise knew that the snake was ready to strike and decided to act fast. He went to see the lion one day and told him that he had found a hidden treasure in a nearby cave. He said that it was a gift from the gods to reward him for his good deeds and that he wanted to share it with him. The lion was curious and greedy and agreed to follow the tortoise to see the treasure.

The tortoise led the lion to a dark and narrow cave where he had set up a trap. He told the lion to go inside first while he waited outside. The lion entered the cave eagerly and saw a pile of gold, silver, jewels, and pearls shining in the darkness. He was amazed by the sight and thanked the tortoise for his generosity. He did not realize that it was all fake and that it was actually a pile of rocks covered with glitter.

As soon as the lion approached the treasure, he heard a loud noise behind him. He turned around and saw that the entrance of the cave had been blocked by a huge boulder. He realized that he had been tricked by
the tortoise and that he was trapped inside. He roared with anger and tried to push the boulder away, but it was too heavy for him.

The tortoise laughed wickedly outside and said: "Farewell, my friend. You have been a good king, but now it is time for me to take your place. Enjoy your treasure while you can, for soon you will be dead."

Advert:
The tortoise then ran away to join forces with the snake, who had already launched his attack on the savanna. The snake's army swept through the land like a plague, killing, burning, looting, and destroying everything in their path. They reached the lion's palace and easily overpowered its guards. They captured all of his allies and family members and threw them into cages or pits. They then crowned the tortoise as the new king of the savanna and celebrated their victory.

The tortoise was overjoyed by his success and sat on the lion's throne with pride. He thanked
the snake for his help and said: "You are my true friend. Together we have conquered this land
and made it ours. We will rule over it with an iron fist."

The snake smiled slyly at him and said: "You are welcome, my friend. But do not forget our deal.
You have promised me half of your kingdom as my reward."

The tortoise nodded nervously at him and said: "Of course, of course. You can have whatever you want."

The snake then said: "Good. Then I want this palace as my residence."

The tortoise hesitated for a moment but then agreed reluctantly.

The snake then said: "And I want all of your gold, silver, jewels, and pearls as my treasure."

The tortoise frowned but then nodded reluctantly.

The snake then said: "And I want all of your allies and family members as my slaves."

The tortoise gasped but then nodded reluctantly.

The snake then said: "And I want you as my servant."

The tortoise was shocked and outraged by this demand. He said: "What? No! That is too much!
You have already taken everything from me. You cannot take me too!"

The snake then said: "Oh, but I can. And I will. You have betrayed your friend and sold your soul to me. You have no choice but to obey me. Or do you prefer to die?"

The tortoise realized that he had made a terrible mistake and that he had been fooled by the snake. He begged for mercy and said: "Please, please, spare me. I am sorry for what I have done. I will do anything you want. Just let me live."

The snake then said: "Too late, my friend. You have sealed your fate. Now you will pay the price for your greed and treachery."

The snake then bit the tortoise on his neck and injected his venom into his body. The tortoise felt a sharp pain and a burning sensation in his veins. He screamed in agony and fell to the ground, writhing and convulsing.

The snake then said: "Goodbye, my friend. You have been a good servant, but now it is time for me to take your place. Enjoy your death while you can, for soon you will be forgotten."

The snake then laughed wickedly and sat on the lion's throne with pride. He declared himself as the supreme ruler of the savanna and ordered his army to kill or enslave all the remaining animals.

Meanwhile, in the cave, the lion was still trapped and starving. He had lost all hope of escaping or being rescued. He had also lost all faith in himself and his friends. He blamed himself for being foolish and trusting the tortoise. He blamed his friends for being weak and abandoning him. He blamed the gods for being cruel and unfair.

He was about to give up and die when he heard a faint voice outside the cave. He listened carefully and recognized it as the voice of the eagle, who was one of his oldest and most loyal friends. The eagle had been away on a long journey when the snake attacked the savanna. He had returned to find his home in ruins and his friends in danger. He had searched for the lion everywhere until he found him in the cave.

The eagle said: "My friend, are you there? Can you hear me?"

The lion was surprised and relieved to hear the eagle's voice. He said: "Yes, yes, I am here.
I can hear you."

The eagle said: "Thank God, you are alive. I have come to save you."

The lion said: "How? How can you save me? The entrance is blocked by a huge boulder.
I cannot move it."

The eagle said: "Do not worry, my friend. I have brought help with me."

The lion then heard another voice outside the cave. He listened carefully and recognized it as
the voice of the elephant, who was another one of his oldest and most loyal friends. The elephant had also been away on a long journey when the snake attacked the savanna. He had also returned to find his home in ruins and his friends in danger. He had also searched for the lion everywhere until he found him in the cave.

The elephant said: "My friend, are you there? Can you hear me?"

The lion was amazed and grateful to hear the elephant's voice. He said: "Yes, yes, I am here.
I can hear you."

The elephant said: "Thank God, you are alive. We have come to save you."

The lion said: "How? How can you save me? The entrance is blocked by a huge boulder.
I cannot move it."

The elephant said: "Do not worry, my friend. I have brought help with me."

The lion then heard another voice outside the cave. He listened carefully and recognized it as
the voice of the rhino, who was yet another one of his oldest and most loyal friends. The rhino had also been away on a long journey when the snake attacked the savanna. He had also returned to find his home in ruins and his friends in danger. He had also searched for the lion everywhere until he found him in the cave.

The rhino said: "My friend, are you there? Can you hear me?"

The lion was astonished and thankful to hear the rhino's voice. He said: "Yes, yes, I am here.
I can hear you."

The rhino said: "Thank God, you are alive. We have come to save you."

The lion said: "How? How can you save me? The entrance is blocked by a huge boulder.
I cannot move it."

The rhino said: "Do not worry, my friend. We have a plan. We will work together to move the boulder and free you."

The lion said: "How? How can you do that? The boulder is too heavy for you."

The rhino said: "Not for us, my friend. Not for us. We have the strength of the elephant, the speed of the eagle, and the courage of the rhino. We are more than enough for this task."

The lion said: "But how? How can you work together? You are so different from each other."

The rhino said: "That is true, my friend. We are different, but we are also alike. We are all your friends, and we all love you. We share a common bond and a common goal. We are united by our friendship and our loyalty. That is how we can work together."

The lion was touched and moved by the rhino's words. He said: "Thank you, my friends. Thank you for your kindness and your faithfulness. You are the best friends I ever had."

The rhino said: "You are welcome, my friend. You deserve it. You have been a good king and a good friend to us. You have always helped us and protected us. You have always treated us with respect and dignity. You have always been there for us."

The lion said: "Thank you, my friends. Thank you for your words and your deeds. You have given me hope and courage. You have given me a reason to live."

The rhino said: "You are welcome, my friend. Now let us get to work and get you out of here."

The rhino then explained the plan to the lion. He said that he would charge at the boulder with full force and try to break it or move it. He said that the elephant would help him by pushing the boulder with his trunk and tusks. He said that the eagle would help him by flying over the boulder and dropping rocks or sticks on it to create cracks or holes.

The lion agreed to the plan and wished them good luck.

The rhino then took a deep breath and ran towards the boulder with all his might. He hit it with his horn and made a loud noise.

The elephant then followed him and pushed the boulder with his trunk and tusks.

The eagle then flew over the boulder and dropped rocks or sticks on it.

They repeated this process several times, until they finally managed to move the boulder enough to create a small opening in the cave.

The lion saw the light coming through the opening and felt a surge of joy.

He crawled towards the opening and saw his friends waiting for him outside.

He thanked them again and hugged them with his paws.

They helped him get out of the cave and welcomed him back to freedom.

They then told him what had happened in his absence and how the tortoise had betrayed him and how
the snake had taken over his kingdom.

They also told him that some of his other friends had survived and were hiding in different places.

They also told him that they had a plan to defeat the snake and restore his throne.

They asked him if he was ready to join them in their fight.

The lion nodded firmly and said: "Yes, I am ready. I am ready to fight for my kingdom and my people.
I am ready to fight for justice and freedom."

He then looked at his friends with gratitude and admiration.

He said: "But I cannot do it alone. I need your help. I need your strength, your speed, and your courage.
I need your friendship and your loyalty."

He then looked at the sky with determination and hope.

He said: "Together, we can do it. Together, we can win."

He then roared loudly and proudly, announcing his return to the savanna.

His friends roared back in response, showing their support and solidarity.

They then gathered their weapons and supplies and prepared for their mission.

They then set off towards the snake's palace, ready to face their enemy and reclaim their land.

Corps Member Tackles Unemployment in Gombe with Fish Farming Training

A bold new project aimed at transforming the lives of 100 young people in Gombe is underway, as Ishaq Abdullahi Shehu, a dedicated National Youth Service Corps member from Kano State, turns his agricultural expertise into a community development program. The initiative focuses on modern fish farming techniques designed to combat youth unemployment and boost local food production. Ishaq, a graduate of agriculture from Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil with specializations in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife, is committed to changing the perception of farming. “Agriculture must be seen as a viable business, not just a way of life,” he explains. His program centers on the innovative Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), a method that recycles water through mechanical and biological filtration to allow for high-density, sustainable fish farming while minimizing the use of land and water. Gombe, like many parts of Nigeria, is grappling with the dual challenges o...
