THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF PROCRASTINATION

Free time is meant for relaxation, but I prefer to immerse myself in knowledge and build castles of words through various forms of writing. However, lately, I find myself trapped in the clutches of four formidable horsemen of procrastination. They pay me a visit whenever I pick up my book or pen, making it difficult for me to do what I know I do best. That's why I decided to join this writing challenge. But wait, how do you think I can find it easy to participate in this challenge?

Before I let the cat out of the bag, let me introduce you to these Four Horsemen of Procrastination: Nap, snacks, Social media, and Other distractions. When I succumb to their inspiring temptations, my productivity suffers, and I struggle to focus on my passions and goals.

HOW I DEAL WITH THIS HORSEMEN

🧠 Nap: While rest is important, I try to set a specific time for a short nap to avoid overindulgence. I create a daily schedule that incorporates dedicated study or writing time, allowing for rejuvenation without falling into prolonged slumber.

🧠 Snacks: Due to health concerns, I am mindful of eating and how it can help curb excessive snacking. When I'm feeling hungry, I plan healthy snacks such as Cabin biscuits, chinchin, or potato chips and set designated break times during study or writing sessions. Another thing is I avoid keeping tempting treats nearby to reduce distractions.

🧠 Social Media: The monster of my generation, the more I try to run away from it, the more I want to get close 😭, but for the purpose of self-development, I implement time management techniques to limit social media usage. In my phone settings, I make sure that I track and restrict my social media time. And sometimes, I prefer "Do not disturb" (DND) as the best option by turning off notifications during focused work hours.

🧠 Other Distractions: I identified my main distractions such as movies, unnecessary calls, noise, minor chores, games etc. and I find ways to eliminate or minimize them. I create a dedicated reading space and communicate my need for uninterrupted time to friends and family.

In taking on this writing challenge, I have discovered that the key to overcoming the Four Horsemen of Procrastination lies in discipline and self-awareness. With the implementation of my strategies, I have found it easier to participate in this challenge and stay focused on my passion for writing. Each day, I remind myself of the importance of staying committed to my goals and how every word I write brings me closer to achieving them. As I continue to build castles of words and delve deeper into the realms of knowledge, I am grateful for the lessons learned from battling these horsemen, as they have transformed my writing journey into a more fulfilling and productive endeavor.

Corps Member Tackles Unemployment in Gombe with Fish Farming Training

A bold new project aimed at transforming the lives of 100 young people in Gombe is underway, as Ishaq Abdullahi Shehu, a dedicated National Youth Service Corps member from Kano State, turns his agricultural expertise into a community development program. The initiative focuses on modern fish farming techniques designed to combat youth unemployment and boost local food production. Ishaq, a graduate of agriculture from Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil with specializations in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife, is committed to changing the perception of farming. “Agriculture must be seen as a viable business, not just a way of life,” he explains. His program centers on the innovative Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), a method that recycles water through mechanical and biological filtration to allow for high-density, sustainable fish farming while minimizing the use of land and water. Gombe, like many parts of Nigeria, is grappling with the dual challenges o...
