WHO AM I?

"If God be for you, who can be against you? Brethren, you can be against yourself... Because you are yet to discover your true self."

I could recall during the election period in Kwara State Polytechnic, a friend of mine, Alex Obajiwa, was persuaded to run for the position of student union president. Despite being uncertain about the role, he succumbed to the pressure, hoping that it might boost his popularity. However, as the responsibilities piled up, Alex found himself devastated and unable to make a noteworthy impact on his fellow students. It was only through a period of deep self-discovery that Alex learned to understand his true passions and abilities. Eventually, he stepped down from the position, but the experience created a newfound sense of purpose within him. Alex went on to become a passionate advocate for student mental health, creating positive change that resonated throughout the entire institution.

Self-discovery is a deep idea that holds the key to knowing our true eventuality and understanding our purpose in life. It is an invaluable journey of meditation, thinking, and exploration that allows us to gain insight into our beliefs, values, emotions, strengths, weaknesses, and identity. Without it, personal growth and development are hindered, leaving us wandering through life.

The importance of self-discovery becomes apparent in various aspects of our lives, including politics and leadership. In many instances, individuals are pushed to pursue positions of power, be it in student unions or national politics, without truly knowing their capabilities and aspirations. This lack of self-awareness can lead to dire consequences, both for the individuals and the communities they serve.

Take, for example, in the political realm of Nigeria, individuals may be encouraged to run for positions without a clear understanding of their own goals and the needs of their constituents. Some might be enticed by the temptation of the so-called "National cake", while others genuinely seek self-actualization. However, without self-discovery and a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, politicians may struggle to deliver on their promises and adequately represent their constituencies.

Moreover, Self-discovery is not a destination but an ongoing process that promotes personal development. It lays the groundwork for personal growth and allows us to identify areas in which we can improve and succeed. Through self-awareness, we can boost our strengths, address our weaknesses, and continuously develop as individuals.

Above all, If God be for you, who can be against you? Brethren, you can be against yourself... Because you are yet to discover your true self. The journey of self-discovery is a alchemize experience that enables us to understand our true selves. By discovering our beliefs, values, and aspirations, we can make knowledgeable decisions that align with our purpose. It is only through self-awareness that we can achieve personal development and lead with authenticity, whether in politics, leadership roles, or any facet of life. My dear reader, Who are you?

As I read about Mosunmola Esther Ajibade’s recent achievement, lines from the Kwara State Polytechnic anthem echoed in my mind. The anthem is more than a song; it captures the heart of the institution’s mission: "Our Citadel Of Excellence, Great Minds Have Come Out Of Thee. Our Blessed POLYTECHNIC That Nurtures Talents, Fulfills Dreams, Destinies, Hopes And Aspirations. We Love You For You Are The Haven Of Bright Mind With Great Ideas. Your Products Are Found Everywhere, KWARAPOLY, Your Praises We Sing." These lines perfectly tells the story of Mosunmola. A graduate of the Mass Communication Department, she has excelled across various fields as a voiceover artist, OAP, red carpet host, and writer. Her latest feat as the best fellow at the 2024 Young Communication Fellowship, organized by PR Nigeria in partnership with Image Marketer Promotion (IMP), adds another feather to her cap. Mosunmola entered the fellowship as an alternative candidate but emerged as the bes...

Corps Member Tackles Unemployment in Gombe with Fish Farming Training

A bold new project aimed at transforming the lives of 100 young people in Gombe is underway, as Ishaq Abdullahi Shehu, a dedicated National Youth Service Corps member from Kano State, turns his agricultural expertise into a community development program. The initiative focuses on modern fish farming techniques designed to combat youth unemployment and boost local food production. Ishaq, a graduate of agriculture from Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil with specializations in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife, is committed to changing the perception of farming. “Agriculture must be seen as a viable business, not just a way of life,” he explains. His program centers on the innovative Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), a method that recycles water through mechanical and biological filtration to allow for high-density, sustainable fish farming while minimizing the use of land and water. Gombe, like many parts of Nigeria, is grappling with the dual challenges o...
