My TRAVELOGUE 3

L-R SUG PRO, Eminent and Promise Olamilekan.

I used to think that student leadership was meant to represent the interests of the students. However, what I witnessed in Abuja was not in the students' interests, but in personal interests. After all, someone once said, "Education is different from politics, you can do politics without being educated". Deep down, I compared the scenario to those in parliament. Do they represent our interests? No! It is very obvious when they complain that Nigeria's roads are bad and demand that the citizens buy them luxurious cars.

That is the country we live in. The country where we hand over the government's duties to God and the government blames us, the citizens, for the bad roads.

Similarly, I thought my travelogue would end on a good note, but I did not know that Ojuelegba was not just a name, but something I would experience soon.

On Tuesday, 31st of October, I opened my eyes to a light bulb shining. I felt within me, "This is a sign of good news". When I stepped out of our inn, I felt the love of nature and the sun was smiling from the east. I sensed the victory of Comr Aroworeyin Nurudeen Olamilekan aka Legend in the message of nature.
OJUELEGBA's chicken

We cleaned up and went to our lovely spot where we got big chicken, "OJUELEGBA", the modern-local restaurant where our money suffered because we had to feed.

After we finished eating, we took pictures and headed back to our inn, but unfortunately, we were checked out. Our money had run out. We sat in our bus, strategizing on how we would do "Kangaroo senators" because our man, Comr Aroworeyin Nurudeen Olamilekan, had to emerge.

Fortunately for us, we converged at the Education Resources Center, Wuse Zone 7 Abuja, at exactly past 3. The DSS were on the ground, alert with their ammunition, ready to bring down any flying flies.

Who was I to misbehave? I followed the protocol, as did the others. The election started on a bad note. The CPC were having issues with each other. I did not know that the election was already decided, and that they just wanted to nominate those who they wanted in power. (This is how individual interests come in.) When they settled, they chose the chairman to coordinate the convention. Instead of voting, he began to call those who were interested in posts to come out and he started declaring them as the offices they wanted.

Thank God, no one from my polytechnic had any issues or got harmed when the convention turned sour. I cannot really narrate it, because at the sight of a fight, I felt that SOMEONE SOMEWHERE WAS WAITING FOR ME TO RETURN IN ONE PIECE, so I did not want to get injured. I ran out to find a safe space.

We left the convention ground at exactly 19:50, heading to Gariki Area 3 to celebrate, but "man proposes". We ate at KC kitchen, I had my favourite meal, Bread and beans with Water.

We departed to Lagos Street. (Lagos Street is a street of harlots, where Sodom and Gomorrah are not different.) As we entered the street, we saw a crowd of women in skimpy clothes, waving and winking at us. They looked like hungry vultures, ready to pounce on any prey. The street was filled with loud music, smoke, and trash. It smelled like a mixture of sweat, alcohol, and decay. We felt a surge of fear and disgust, but we had no choice. We had to find a place to sleep.

Out of the SUG president's generosity, the room he booked for us stank more than a pig's pen, but as we had no funds, we spent the night there and he went to find a luxurious place to sleep. Wasn't he a generous president?

On 1st of November, we were coming back to our beloved Kwara State. We got to Bida's bumpy and dusty road. The men whom we thought were for us, turned against us like Cain to Abel. They seized our phones and mocked us. Funnily enough, they took the president's phone too. We had nothing to say, because only God knows who told them to follow us to Abuja.

No one had a fun time until we got to Ilorin, and these men took us to their base for us to redeem our phones with a price. The SUG president was called. I had to stay apart, because I did not want any connection with these men.

Thank God, we all got home safe and sound, but the journey to Abuja was really adventurous and full of lessons that I will never forget.

Kwara State Polytechnic Mass Communication Graduate Emerges Best Fellow at the 2024 Young Communication Fellowship

As I read about Mosunmola Esther Ajibade’s recent achievement, lines from the Kwara State Polytechnic anthem echoed in my mind. The anthem is more than a song; it captures the heart of the institution’s mission: "Our Citadel Of Excellence, Great Minds Have Come Out Of Thee. Our Blessed POLYTECHNIC That Nurtures Talents, Fulfills Dreams, Destinies, Hopes And Aspirations. We Love You For You Are The Haven Of Bright Mind With Great Ideas. Your Products Are Found Everywhere, KWARAPOLY, Your Praises We Sing." These lines perfectly tells the story of Mosunmola. A graduate of the Mass Communication Department, she has excelled across various fields as a voiceover artist, OAP, red carpet host, and writer. Her latest feat as the best fellow at the 2024 Young Communication Fellowship, organized by PR Nigeria in partnership with Image Marketer Promotion (IMP), adds another feather to her cap. Mosunmola entered the fellowship as an alternative candidate but emerged as the bes...

Corps Member Tackles Unemployment in Gombe with Fish Farming Training

A bold new project aimed at transforming the lives of 100 young people in Gombe is underway, as Ishaq Abdullahi Shehu, a dedicated National Youth Service Corps member from Kano State, turns his agricultural expertise into a community development program. The initiative focuses on modern fish farming techniques designed to combat youth unemployment and boost local food production. Ishaq, a graduate of agriculture from Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil with specializations in forestry, fisheries, and wildlife, is committed to changing the perception of farming. “Agriculture must be seen as a viable business, not just a way of life,” he explains. His program centers on the innovative Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), a method that recycles water through mechanical and biological filtration to allow for high-density, sustainable fish farming while minimizing the use of land and water. Gombe, like many parts of Nigeria, is grappling with the dual challenges o...
